Ep.049

Wikipedia

Lyrics
Info: Francisco Buarque de Hollanda is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, guitarist, composer, playwright, writer, and poet. He is best known for his music, which often includes social, economic, and cultural reflections on Brazil. The firstborn son of Sérgio Buarque de Hollanda, Buarque lived at several locations throughout his childhood, though mostly in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Rome. He wrote and studied literature as a child and found music through the bossa nova compositions of Tom Jobim and João Gilberto. He performed as a singer and guitarist in the 1960s as well as writing a play that was deemed dangerous by the Brazilian military dictatorship of the time. Buarque, along with several Tropicalist and MPB musicians, was threatened by the Brazilian military government and eventually left Brazil for Italy in 1969. However, he came back to Brazil in 1970 and continued to record, perform, and write, though much of his material was suppressed by government censors. He released several more albums in the 1980s and published three novels in the 1990s and 2000s. In 2019, Buarque was awarded the Camões Prize, the most important prize for literature in the Portuguese language. However, the awarding of the prize was delayed by four years due to actions by Jair Bolsonaro, but Buarque received it in April 2023. He has also won eleven Brazilian Music Awards, the most important prize for Brazilian music.

Évora returned to music in 1985, when she contributed to a women's music anthology album in Portugal. There, she met music producer José "Djô" da Silva, who signed Évora to his record label, Lusafrica. She released her debut album, La Diva Aux Pieds Nus, in 1988. Ep.033

Wikipedia

Lyrics
Info: Ministry is an American industrial metal band founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1981 by producer, singer, and instrumentalist Al Jourgensen. Originally a synth-pop outfit, Ministry evolved into one of the pioneers of industrial rock and industrial metal in the late 1980s. The band's lineup has changed frequently, leaving Jourgensen as the sole remaining original member. Ministry attained commercial success during the late 1980s and early 1990s with three of their studio albums: The Land of Rape and Honey (1988), The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste (1989) and Psalm 69 (1992). The first two were certified gold while the later was certified platinum. Psalm 69 was followed by Filth Pig (1996), which was a stylistic departure for the band and marked the beginning of the band's commercial decline. The lackluster response to their next album, Dark Side of the Spoon (1999), resulted in an extended hiatus in early 2000s, when Jourgensen entered rehab after years of substance abuse. Following Jourgensen's recovery, Ministry resurfaced in 2003 with Animositisomina. Ministry returned to the thrash/industrial style of Psalm 69 and released three albums the "Bush Trilogy": Houses of the Molé (2004), Rio Grande Blood (2006) and The Last Sucker (2007); these albums effectively revitalized the band's commercial viability. Ministry reformed in 2011 and released Relapse in the following year. In 2012, longtime guitar contributor Mike Scaccia died of a heart attack, and he was posthumously featured in the next Ministry album, From Beer to Eternity (2013). Despite this, Ministry has since released three more albums, AmeriKKKant (2018), Moral Hygiene (2021) and Hopiumforthemasses (2024), while tentative talks of a second breakup of the band, after at least one more album, have ensued since 2022. Vol.XV
Ep.027

Soundcloud

Lyrics
Info: The Stockholm based A PROJECTION started in 2013 with the ambition to be a true post punk band. The main influences were groups like The Cure, Joy Division/New Order, Sisters of Mercy, Interpol, and Editors. Electronic acts like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, D.A.F. and The Knife were also important Influences. Although sometimes spilling over into adjacent genres like indie and goth, the first three albums (Exit, Framework and Section) were rather firmly rooted in the post punk genre, developing from a rather hard-boiled, minimalistic sound into a more readily accessible one, all within the within the framework of a pretty strict post-punk aesthetic and attitude. During Covid, after having changed both a couple of members, with e.g. the former bassist becoming the main vocalist, and record company, from the more indie oriented Tapete Records to the genre-wise more well-suited Metropolis Records, the sound of A PROJECTION shifted towards a more synth based style with a lot of influences from both the 80s, contemporary darkwave and mainstream hit lists. The A PROJECTION sound has been described as “a danceable mixture of post punk and electronica, with both depth and edge, bright colors and darkness”.
