R. Missing – Unsummering

Vol.XV
Ep.026

Soundcloud

Lyrics
Info: R. Missing is new-yorked based vocalist Sharon Shy and musician Toppy enigmatic music project. 'Unsummering', the first release under their new moniker R. Missing, expands on The Ropes’ previous palette of Morrissey tinged lyrics and darkwave. The debut mini-album manages to be even more isolated lyrically than their famously nihilistic previous work, fully embracing complete detachment. Musically, fraught guitar and synth textures paint an image of an unstable world, held together only by tightly quantized electronic drum beats.

Bauhaus - In The Flat Field

Vol.XV
Ep.021

Wikipedia

Lyrics
Info: Bauhaus are an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. Known for their dark image and gloomy sound, Bauhaus are one of the pioneers of gothic rock, although they mixed many genres, including dub, glam rock, psychedelia, and funk. The group consisted of Daniel Ash (guitar, saxophone), Peter Murphy (vocals, occasional instruments), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band formed under the name Bauhaus 1919, in reference to the first operating year of the German art school Bauhaus. Their 1979 debut single "Bela Lugosi's Dead" as well as their debut album, In the Flat Field, are considered the harbingers of gothic rock music. Their 1981 second album Mask expanded their sound by incorporating a wider variety of instruments on tracks like "Kick in the Eye". Bauhaus went on to achieve mainstream success with their third album, The Sky's Gone Out. That same year, they also reached No. 15 on the Singles Chart with a standalone cover of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust", earning them an appearance on Top of the Pops. During recording sessions for their next album, Murphy fell ill and spent much of his time away from the studio, leaving the rest of the band to compensate for his absence. This created a rift between the singer and his bandmates, culminating in the group breaking up in July 1983, one week before Burning from the Inside was released. Featuring the Top 30 UK single "She's in Parties", it would be their final studio album. After Bauhaus's break-up, Murphy formed Dalis Car with bassist Mick Karn before beginning a solo career later on, while Ash and Haskins continued as Tones on Tail and, later, reunited with David J to form Love and Rockets. Murphy's solo career enjoyed greater commercial success in the United States than Bauhaus, as did Love and Rockets. Bauhaus eventually reunited for a 1998 tour, again from 2005 to 2008, and in 2019 and 2022.

Ep.015

Wikipedia

Lyrics
Info: Tindersticks are a rock band from Nottingham, England. Tindersticks line-up was: Stuart Staples (vocals) Dave Boulter (organ and accordion) Neil Fraser (guitar) Dickon Hinchliffe (guitar and strings) Al Macauley (percussion and drums) Mark Colwill (bass). The name Tindersticks was chosen by Staples after he discovered a box of German matches on a Greek beach. Tindersticks started recording demo tapes in 1992 and released their first single, "Patchwork", in the same year. Their self-titled first and second albums established their signature sound and received widespread critical acclaim. By the time of the third album, Curtains, it was clear that a change of direction was called for. The fourth album, Simple Pleasure, lived up to its title with a series of snappy, direct songs influenced by soul music. The female backing vocals on several tracks, signalled the band's wish to move towards lighter, more soulful material. The fifth album, Can Our Love..., continued that direction. The sixth album, Waiting for the Moon, was more stripped down and introspective in nature. In 2005 Staples embarked on a solo career and he has so far produced two solo albums, Lucky Dog Recordings 03-04 and Leaving Songs. In 2007, a stripped-down line-up of three, Staples, Boulter, Fraser and new members Thomas Belhom on drums, Dan McKinna on bass and Ian Caple engineering, released The Hungry Saw in April 2008. In 2010, the eighth album Falling Down a Mountain was released with a changed band line-up, with Earl Harvin replacing Belhom on drums and David Kitt, a solo artist in his own right, joining the band on guitar and vocals. Afterwards six have been released throughout the years: The Something Rain (2012), Across Six Leap Years (2013), The Waiting Room (2016), No Treasure But Hope (2019), Distractions (2021) and Soft Tissue (2024).

Bon Iver - S P E Y S I D E

Vol.XV
Ep.013

Wikipedia

Lyrics
Info: Bon Iver is an American indie folk band founded in 2007 by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. The band also includes Michael Noyce, Sean Carey, Colin Stetson and Matthew McCaughan amongst others. After the breakup of the band DeYarmond Edison, a failed relationship and a bout with mononucleosis, Vernon left Raleigh, North Carolina, and moved back to his hometown, to spend the oncoming winter months at his father's cabin in Medford, Wisconsin. Settling down with a heavy heart, Vernon started writing songs. He ended up spending four months living and working in isolation in the middle of a snowbound winter and the outcome was, For Emma, Forever Ago, a set of sad songs, where Emma — the middle-name of an ex-girlfriend— can be found all over his lyrics. The album was officially released in January 2008. In 2009, Bon Iver released the Blood Bank EP, essentially an addendum to the For Emma, Forever Ago. Late in 2009, Vernon debuted his side-project, Volcano Choir, an ad-hoc collaboration with members of Wisconsin post-rock ensemble Collections of Colonies of Bees. In 2011, Bon Iver finally released the long-awaited follow-up to For Emma, Forever Ago. The self-titled second Bon Iver LP was a set of songs each written about different places in the world. The praise for Bon Iver was overwhelming. Bon Iver won the 2012 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album for their album Bon Iver, Bon Iver. Their third album, 22, A Million, was release in September 2016, followed by I, I in 2019 and Sable, Fable in 2025. The name "Bon Iver" derives from the French phrase bon hiver ('good winter'), taken from a greeting on 1990s TV series Northern Exposure.

Lyrics
Info: Elvis Aaron Presley, known mononymously as Elvis, was an American singer and actor. Known as the "King of Rock and Roll", he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century. Presley's energized performances and interpretations of songs, and sexually provocative performance style during a transformative era in race relations. His music career began there in 1954 with producer Sam Phillips. Presley, on guitar and accompanied by lead guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, was a pioneer of rockabilly and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined to complete the lineup of Presley's classic quartet and RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who managed him for the rest of his career. Within a year, RCA Victor sold ten million Presley singles. With a series of successful television appearances and chart-topping records, Presley became the leading figure of the newly popular rock and roll; though his performative style and promotion of the then-marginalized sound of African Americans led to him being widely considered a threat to the moral well-being of white American youth. Years of prescription drug abuse and unhealthy eating severely compromised his health, and Presley died unexpectedly in 1977 at the age of 42. Presley is one of the best-selling music artists in history, with sale estimates ranging from 500 million records to over a billion worldwide. He was commercially successful in many genres, including pop, country, rock and roll, rockabilly, rhythm and blues, adult contemporary, and gospel. He won three Grammy Awards, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame. He holds several records, including the most gold and platinum albums and the most albums charted on the Billboard 200. In 2018, Presley was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Lyrics
Info: Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. He became a worldwide icon through his screen persona, the Tramp, and is considered one of the film industry's most important figures. His career spanned more than 75 years. Chaplin began performing at an early age, touring music halls and later working as a stage actor and comedian. He soon introduced and adopted the Tramp as his screen persona. He directed his own films and continued to hone his craft as he moved to Essanay Studios, where the Tramp persona was developed emotionally in The Tramp (1915). In 1919, Chaplin co-founded the distribution company United Artists, which gave him complete control over his films. His first feature-length film was The Kid (1921), followed by A Woman of Paris (1923), The Gold Rush (1925), and The Circus (1928). He initially refused to move to sound films in the 1930s, instead producing City Lights (1931) and Modern Times (1936) without dialogue. His first sound film was The Great Dictator (1940). The 1940s were marked with controversy for Chaplin, and his popularity declined rapidly. He was accused of communist sympathies. An FBI investigation was opened, and Chaplin was forced to leave the U.S. in 1952 and settle in Switzerland. He abandoned the Tramp in his later films, which include Monsieur Verdoux (1947), Limelight (1952), A King in New York (1957), and A Countess from Hong Kong (1967). Chaplin wrote, directed, produced, edited, starred in, and composed the music for most of his films. He was a perfectionist, and his financial independence enabled him to spend years on the development and production of a picture. He received an Honorary Academy Award for "the incalculable effect he has had in making motion pictures the art form of this century" in 1972, as part of a renewed appreciation for his work.
